Nothing says "depersonalization" like remote meetings. It seems impossible to share ideas, express emotions, or simply get a word in for a meaningful conversation.
Some tips for making the most of remote meetings can be found in our beginning phase workshops, but we will offer a few suggestions here.
Make sure the rules for the meeting are clearly established. For example, if you want people muted until they are called on to speak. This way no one feels interrupted.
Most systems have a hand raise button to get the speakers attention. This system works well even during business meetings so that everyone knows you are waiting to provide input.
Establish another time and place for follow up in small groups or in a meeting room for interaction with your coworkers on action items. It is essential to have this time to discuss the meetings which allows for creativity on the topics discussed.
